Other notables include Novak Djokovic, who last won a Slam at the 2016 French Open, and German Alexander Zverev, the top player in 2018. Roger Federer (rest) and Andy Murray (hip surgery) will miss the season’s second major tournament.

Serena Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam singles titlist and three-time winner at Roland Garros, plays her first Grand Slam since giving birth to daughter Alexis Ohanian on Sept. 1. Williams was not given a seen by French Open organizers as she comes back from maternity leave.

Williams has played four WTA Tour matches, all in March, since winning the 2017 Australian Open. Like Nadal, she can tie a Court record this year — the most career Grand Slam singles titles at 24.

Other contenders include top-ranked Simona Halep, Australian Open champ Caroline Wozniacki, U.S. Open champ Sloane Stephens and past French Open champions Maria Sharapova, Garbiñe Muguruza and Jelena Ostapenko.A pair of dominant Grand Slam tennis champions enter the 2018 French Open with plenty of buzz surrounding them.

Rafael Nadal comes into the tournament, which begins May 27 at Roland Garros, in strong form on his favored surface, while Serena Williams is set to make her return to the major championship stage in the women's tournament.

Nadal, who is the defending champion on the men's side, is in search of his 11th French Open title, while Williams will be chasing her 24th overall Grand Slam crown.

Nadal won't face a challenge from Roger Federer, who is skipping the clay court season, but he will be tested by some of the other top players in the world.

The women's tournament has seen four winners in the last four years, with Jelena Ostapenko winning it all a year ago.

NBA Playoffs 2018 | Warriors vs Rockets Live Streaming in game four of tcu tv channel Conference Finals, The Celtics are now one win away from the NBA Finals. Boston takes care of business at home in Game 5, knocking off the Cavaliers with a 96-83 victory. This was one of their best performances of the playoffs. Their defense swallowed the Cavaliers whole and forced everybody not named LeBron James to struggle putting up points. Cleveland did make a strong push late, but the Cavs couldn't close the gap.

James looked tired at times Wednesday night yet still scored a game-high 26 points. It just wasn't enough with the rest of his supporting cast struggling to put up points. The Celtics, on the other hand, got a big 24 points out of Jayson Tatum. Al Horford took over in the fourth quarter and finished with 15 points. Everything went Boston's way late in the game.

The Celtics have to go back to Cleveland at least once, but if they can't close it out in Game 6 then they'll have a chance to do so in Game 7. That's a huge advantage for Boston because the Celtics have yet to lose a game at home in the playoffs.
Game 5: Celtics 96, Cavs 83

There was a time during Game 5 where it felt like the game was going to be a close contest. The Cavs came out with a lot of fight and, despite being down early, were responding well to adversity. At one point they got in a literal fight when Marcus Morris had a hard foul on Larry Nance Jr.However, the game just got too out of hand for the Cavs to contain Boston. The Celtics not only played great defense, but they took advantage of opportunities on offense -- especially in transition. Jayson Tatum found Aron Baynes early on for a dunk and that was a great indicator of how the rest of the game was going to go.Another good indicator was Marcus Smart.

He made three shots from deep and had 13 points despite only shooting 30 percent from distance all season. When players like that start making deep looks there just isn't much a defense can do about it.The dagger, though, came from Horford. The Cavs opted not to play Tristan Thompson in the closing moments and it bit them hard. Horford unleashed himself and threw down a monster dunk in transition to put the game out of reach for Cleveland.

For the first time in cycling history, a stage race will begin in Israel. A mountain-packed 2018 Giro d’Italia begins with a Jerusalem time trial.
In many ways, cycling has been pushing for decades in the direction of turning the concept of a national tour into a nebulous idea. In 22 of its 104 editions through 2017, the Tour de France has started outside of French soil. And this year, the 101st edition of the Giro d’Italia will start on foreign soil for the 13th time.

This time, however, has the weight of history on its shoulders. The Giro organizers opted to start this year’s edition in Israel. It will be the first time any grand tour ventures off European soil for its start. Three stages will go through Israel, a brief but impactful aside marking a historic first for the race.

RCS, the organizers of the Giro d’Italia, has faced considerable criticism for choosing to stage the race start in Israel. First RCS came under heat from the Israeli government when it initially chose to refer to the start point of the opening time trial as West Jerusalem rather than just Jerusalem to reflect the geographic realities of the contested city.

After conceding to Israel’s wishes, the organizers then faced heat from human rights groups. They argued that the Giro d’Italia was giving sanction to the Israeli government at a time when its military has ramped up conflict with Palestinians. Despite the protests all around, the race will go on in Israel.

A Memorial Day weekend tradition that dates back to 1965 will come to an end Sunday, May 27, as ABC’s 54th telecast of the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race brings a five-decade long streak to a close, leaving behind a legacy of innovation and history.

The telecast of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” begins with a pre-race show at 11 a.m. ET and then polesitter Ed Carpenter will lead the field of 33 to the green flag at 12:19 p.m. The race telecast of the premier event of the Verizon IndyCar Series is presented by Firestone and is also available on the ESPN App and the WatchABC App.

Allen Bestwick will call the race, joined in the booth for analysis by former series drivers Scott Goodyear and Eddie Cheever. The announcer team also will include pit reporters Jon Beekhuis, Rick DeBruhl and Dr. Jerry Punch. ESPN SportsCenter anchor Nicole Briscoe will host the Pennzoil pre-race show from the Speedway’s iconic Pagoda, and SportsCenter reporter Marty Smith will join the pre-race show and take viewers inside some of the activities going on around the track.

The relationship between ABC and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been one of the longest-running between a network and a sporting event, with the race first airing on ABC’s Wide World of Sports in 1965.

“We have had a wonderful and rewarding relationship with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Indianapolis 500 and INDYCAR and it has been our distinct honor to be partners for so many years,” said Burke Magnus, ESPN Executive Vice President, Programming & Scheduling. “We wish them all the best in the future.”

Production Utilizing Record 110 Cameras

The Indianapolis 500 telecast, which is annually one of ESPN’s largest and most complex television productions, will utilize a record 110 cameras, covering on-track action from dozens of locations and providing unique viewpoints such as from the pace car, a crew member’s helmet, a parachutist and cameras on cars competing in the race. The camera count also will include the use of four Super So-Mo cameras placed in all four turns of the track to enhance replay coverage.

With the revised design of cars used in the IndyCar Series this year creating more opportunities for camera placements, fans will be seeing different views and angles from four onboard cameras per car carried by 14 drivers in the race. Viewers of the ABC telecast will have the option of a second screen experience through a choice of live streaming video from the onboard cameras on the ESPN App, also including team radio communications.

Drivers carrying onboard cameras will include Danica Patrick, who is competing in the final race of her career, defending Indy 500 winner Takuma Sato and 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series champion Josef Newgarden as well as former race winners Ryan Hunter-Reay, Helio Castroneves, Scott Dixon and Alexander Rossi. Also carrying onboard cameras will be the cars of Graham Rahal, Jay Howard, Robert Wickens, Marco Andretti, Zach Veach, Will Power and Ed Jones.

Sato and Rahal will be wearing Visor Cam, a tiny camera mounted to their helmets, creating a unique view from the perspective of the driver and a true portrayal of how it feels to be inside the car. Also, Blair Julian, left front tire changer for Dixon’s pit crew, will be wearing an “over the wall” camera on his helmet, giving viewers an up-close and personal look at what a pit stop looks like from someone on the front lines.

The production will be supported by 150 technical crew members and will include 210 microphones, 16 EVS machines with 123 record and playback channels, nine mobile units and four uplinks transmitting 17 satellite paths. Some 170,000 feet of fiber cable will connect the equipment.

ESPN’s production of the race telecast will be led by senior coordinating producer Amy Rosenfeld and coordinating producer Kate Jackson, with Jim Gaiero producing and Bruce Watson directing. Jackson will produce the pre-race show with Chip Dean directing.

Features in Indy 500 Coverage

The opening tease for the telecast depicts the Indy 500 as a journey that is about more than the 500 miles – it’s a tradition and a race against time and the drivers and legends that have come before.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are one win away from reaching the Stanley Cup Final, beating the Washington Capitals 3-2 in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Final at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, on Saturday.Since losing the first two games of the series, the Lightning have won three games in a row, and they now hold a 3-2 series lead.

After taking a 3-1 lead Saturday, the Lightning held on against a late surge from Washington. The Caps could not net the equalizer on the heels of Alex Ovechkin scoring with less than two minutes left in the game to make it 3-2.

Tampa set the tone from the start with a goal on its first shift of the game. Cedric Paquette scored 19 seconds in off a one-handed pass from Ryan Callahan, as seen in the following video courtesy of NHL on NBC:After the road team won each of the first four games of this series, the Lightning defeated the Washington Capitals 3-2 at Amalie Arena on Saturday, pushing Washington to the brink of elimination and taking a 3-2 lead.

After playing 12 subpar periods at 5-on-5, the Lightning scored three goals in that phase of the game, matching the most they have in any game of this series. And where the Lightning were victims of allowing goals late in periods at the start of this series, they turned the tables on the Capitals, scoring a goal in the opening minute of the first and second periods to blitz the Capitals and build out a cushion.

It began when Cedric Paquette scored 19 seconds into regulation, taking advantage of a broken play and a deflected pass from Ryan Callahan that hit off the skate of Dmitry Orlov and right into Paquette's path.

Midway through the period, Ondrej Palat doubled that lead when he capitalized on another Capitals defensive miscue, before firing a wrist shot past Braden Holtby and under the crossbar. Tampa Bay took a 2-0 lead entering the second period.

Ryan Callahan added to Tampa Bay's advantage seconds into the second period. It took only 33 seconds for Callahan to push Tampa Bay's advantage to 3-0, when he deflected home a puck out of midair after crashing the net for a rebound.

Evgeny Kuznetsov would break Andrei Vasilevskiy's shutout about four minutes later, when he deflected a Matt Niskanen shot to cut Washington's deficit to 3-1. From there, it was nearly a perfect night for Vasilevskiy, save for an Alex Ovechkin goal with the Capitals playing 6-on-5 in the closing minutes.

After falling behind 2-0 in this series, the Lightning have gotten superb goaltending from Vasilevskiy who has stopped 100 of the 106 shots he's seen.

GOLDEN STANDARD

How Vegas became the most successful expansion team in sports history

The Ovechkin goal made it interesting, but the Lightning would hold on in the closing 96 seconds, including one final, game-sealing save from Vasilevskiy on John Carlson.TAMPA, Fla. -- The Washington Capitals know they have a lot of work to do.

The Tampa Bay Lightning know their work is far from done.

Both teams expect to be at their best on Monday for Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals at Capital One Arena with Tampa Bay holding a 3-2 series advantage and the chance to advance to the Stanley Cup Final to face the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Capitals, a franchise haunted by the failures of postseasons past, are staring down another one heading into their first elimination game of this year's playoffs.

After finally pushing past the Pittsburgh Penguins and advancing past the second round for the first time in 20 years -- and the first time in the Alex Ovechkin era -- Washington kept rolling right on in to the conference finals, winning the first two games on the road.

But since grabbing that 2-0 series lead, the Capitals have dropped the past three games and are once again facing questions about seeing a big series lead dissipate into disappointment.

In the conference era, which dates back to 1974-75, only two teams in 41 occasions have won the first two games of a conference final or league semifinal on the road and failed to win the series: the Montreal Canadiens in 1984 and Boston Bruins in 1991.

"It's OK," Washington captain Alex Ovechkin said. "We're going to play better in Game 6 and we have [to] bounce back and come here and play a Game 7 and that's it."

The Capitals are leaning on some of the adversity they have faced this season, including being down 0-2 themselves in the opening round after dropping consecutive home games to open the series against Columbus.

"We kind of had our backs against the wall a couple times this year in these playoffs. We can draw from those experiences," defenseman John Carlson said. "Just got to go out there and play hockey. That's what we do. Just all about upstairs and what you can control. I think if you stay in the moment like we have, we got a pretty good chance of winning.

"I think these guys are a very capable group that is very capable of winning the next game. That's all we're worried about."

History is not on Washington's side, however.

When a series is tied 2-2 in a best-of-seven format, the team which won Game 5 has an all-time series record of 215-55, a 79.6 winning percentage.

But the Lightning are well aware that a 3-2 series lead means the next victory is going to be the hardest to earn.

Twice in the previous three years Tampa Bay has been in this same position in the conference finals. In 2015, they held a 3-2 lead against the New York Rangers heading back home but lost Game 6 before winning in seven games. In 2016, the Lightning were up 3-2 on the Pittsburgh Penguins in the conference finals and lost Game 6 at home and eventually the series in seven games.

Now, they are back in the same situation in 2018, but instead are heading on the road with the chance to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals for the third time in franchise history.

"We have a lot of unfinished business," Lightning forward Ryan Callahan said. "This isn't even close to being over. This last game's definitely the hardest, against a very, very good Washington team and to go in their building and try to close them out it's going to be tough."

Tampa Bay has been a strong road team in these playoffs, posting a 5-1 record away from home with four consecutive road victories. The Lightning have also never lost a playoff game in Washington in three all-time postseason meetings, which also includes 2003 and 2011, with a 7-0 record.

Yet, all that matters is what Tampa Bay can put forth on Monday.

"We're going to have to match their urgency," Lightning head coach Jon Cooper said. "The closeout games, potential closeout games, they just seem to bring out the best in everybody. For us, we've had some success when we've gotten the lead. When you do that, you put a little pressure on the other team. Something we'll try and focus on [Monday] night."
